Nate the Great and the Monster Mess

As we near the end of the year in kindergarten we begin to introduce chapter books to the students during our read aloud time. Reading a chapter book in kindergarten is a big deal, even if it is being read to them. The students have to remember what happened the day before in the book because we discuss this each day before we begin a new chapter. We only read one chapter a day and we discuss it in great detail. The students are REALLY getting into this book and we thought it would be fun to have the students answer questions and comment on the book.

What is the problem in the story?
"The recipes of the monster cookies is gone."
-Damien

What are some of the clues that we have found?
-"The dog would be good in lemons." - Matthew
-Mom took out a long paper with cookie ingredients." - Cody A.

Where could the recipe be?
- "It might be in Mom's purse" - Solie
-It could be at the fish store." -Jaedan
-"It might be in her pocket." - Janie

We found out at the end of the book that mom was making a new recipe that would taste like lemons and look like Fang the dog. She put the recipe upside down and then it got lost!

Ohhhhh I love y'all! Only, I'm not really sure why the dog would be good in lemons?

I have always loved "Nate the Great" books, but I haven't read this one yet. Tell us more about why "the dog would be good in lemons" - that sounds mysterious to me! - Mrs. Manck, Gilmer High School Library, Gilmer, Texas
